I saw a picture of this in a knitting book. The instructions for knitting it were complicated, and I thought, that would be a piece of cake to crochet! So I xeroxed a picture of the finished product, and jotted down sizes for the little circles, and it was easy peasy, and looks FABULOUS.

I think you could do this with almost any yarn, even soft stuff, but I liked using a slightly thicker kind so that the chains keep their definition.
The yarn I used was Lion brand Jiffy, and the colors I used were Denim and El Paso. My memory is that I went through three balls of each making the scarf the size I did. I used whatever size of hook the yarn recommended, maybe an H.
The scarf is worked in seperate links, and I alternated the colors for each link. Each link is crocheted in a spiral, so after you chain your first section, you just slipstitch onto the beginning of the chain and keep going without turning the work and going the other way. This makes a smooth tube without a seam. I did half double crochet in the back loops because it makes a cool stripe in the pattern.
Each link is 10 1/2 inches around and 3 inches wide. I seem to remember that I cast on about 33 stitches before linking back to the beginning, but you can measure it with your yarn and hook.

Here's the fun part: after you finish the first circle, chain the beginning of the second, and THREAD IT THROUGH THE FIRST CIRCLE before you link it. You'll have to be careful not to twist it as you go, but then, since you're working in a spiral, you can just keep turning it as you crochet to keep the side you're working on on top.
I made 26 loops, 13 in each color, and the scarf ended up being 6 feet long, just right for me.
And that's it. This was so easy, fast and fun I want to make another one.
