What's Otter's

A guy from Liverpool travels to America, falls in love with a girl, gets deported and has to find her again.

Okay, let me say it right here and now up front before anything else:

I REALLY HATE BEATLES MUSIC.

So when I tell you that this plot is mostly made up of people singing Beatles tunes in place of dialogue, it'll probably be pretty obvious how I felt about it.

Maid-of-Awesome showed it to me and Mr. Otter one evening because she loves it and has seen it a dozen times. Mr. Otter, the self-professed Hater of Rock Music, liked it too, because it's a musical, and pretty well done. Me? Well, after it was over, what could I say but, it was okay but you know I REALLY HATE BEATLES MUSIC.

Yes, the lead was cute, the actors were good, the 60s setting (including Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix look/soundalikes and the Bus full of Merry Pranksters) was well done. There were a few actual musical numbers (as opposed to people singing the songs to each other or themselves in place of dialogue) that were quite good, and which I rather liked- the bowling alley scene, for instance.

Eddie Izzard was of course good, but rather wasted on one three minute song that had nothing to do with the actual plot.

Anyway. A cute movie which everyone but me seems to like. If you are not obstinately opposed to the music of said group, you may like it too. Me? um, I think I'll go pet the cats for a while instead, thanks.
