A scientific experiment leads to the discovery of the cause of death...and
one scientist attempts to become immortal...and things, of course, go very
wrong.
When Hammer Films stopped making historical mildly scary stuff and went heavily into the blood and gore, other smaller companies kind of took over that niche...this is one of the resulting films. The Squirrel Lady, Mr. Otter and I were lowering a few in our favorite pub, and when it was decided to go back Chez Otter and watch a movie (something all three of us love to do), she admitted to having this one in her possession, in hopes that we would want to watch it, it being a childhood favorite of hers. And we were glad to do so. And you know, this was kind of cool, in a funky old fashioned kind of way. The scientist is obsessed with his discovery of this gaseous thing that seemed to be attracted to a person at the moment of death...he figures out that if he can trap the thing, the person will be immortal, since it actually causes death. And of course things go horribly, irrevocably wrong. Atmospheric, creepy, enough nonsensical things happening to be a little MSTable, but fun to watch nonetheless. Especially good after drinking some excellent beer. Give it a try, you'll have fun. |
