The rise and fall of the ruler of the Huns.

Well, Mr. Otter and I liked this one, even though there was a certain amount of msting involved, can't resist with these historical epics. The period detail was pretty darn good, clothes/weapons/stuff generally looked right, although the Huns had this indefinable Celtic feel to them...and Attila himself was big and cute, instead of short, stumpy and swarthy. Lots of horses and moderate battle scenes, but made for TV so no real blood or much intensity in the smoochy parts.

Quibbles: Firstly, I rented this because TIM CURRY is in it (I'm a big fan) and it said TIM CURRY prominently on the cast list. In fact, although TIM CURRY is the third listed actor, he doesn't show up for an hour and forty five minutes, and is on screen for about 4 1/2 minutes TOTAL. Where are the truth in advertising laws when you need them? sigh.

Powers Boothe was doing his Lee Marvin impersonation, kind of jarring for a Roman general, and there were some little mistakes, like using the word Crusade when it didn't exist yet, and calling a trebuchet a catapult (Mr. Otter caught that one.). Plus we kept waiting for the pope to show up, as happened historically...but no, we don't get to see the pope, they wrote him out of the script. What's the use of being pope if you don't get to turn away the Huns?

The Romans were in general worth watching, and all the muscly scruffy Hun guys with long hair...and the woman who played the witch, Galen, was excellent. Pretty good, not outstanding but certainly fun to watch for an evening.
