From the novel Theatre by W. Somerset Maugham

Well, of course this was the movie that was supposed to be Bening's Oscar vehicle, and evidently a huge upset at the awards ceremony when Hilary Swank won for Million Dollar Baby. Me, I don't see it.

Although after three lovely days with the Dog Master and the Barracuda at Dog Acres, swilling beer, shopping, museum crawling, eating everything in sight...this was a nice way to end the weekend.

Julia (Bening) is an older actress, married to her producer/manager Jeremy Irons (still completely woofworthy at 56)...she is tired of the hit play she's been in forever (in 1938 London) and wants a change....and finds it in the person of a very handsome young man. This is a wonderful comedy, fun to watch (especially the ending), and beautifully filmed...but comparing it to Million Dollar Baby? no question about who deserved the Oscar on that one, folks.

But if you're in the mood for something funny and charming, easy on the eye, not too demanding but still worth your time...this is a good bet.
