Bernard loses his job and his girlfriend, but gets...a genie of his own.

This is a silly and charming Christmas story, made for British TV in the 80s...and I really love it. Written by Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral) and starring (of course) Rowan Atkinson (I think those two are joined at the hip, actually, but they're a great combination), with a pretty good cast.

Bernard is played by Alan "Cute as a box full of puppy dogs" Cummings, and the Genie is a British comedian named Lenny Henry, who is way over the top in enjoying the delights of the 20th century but a lot of fun to watch. Of course the good guys win out over the bad guys, Bernard finds a girl, and the genie...well, he does all right too.

Finally out on Region 1 dvd, this is a really amusing and heartwarming holiday offering.
