From the novel of the same name by Daniel Wallace

A young man whose father is a noted storyteller (liar, as far as his son is concerned) goes home to reconcile with his father who is dying of cancer.

Well, of course it's a Tim Burton film, so it's bound to be at least interesting...but this is more than that, it's very very charming. Albert Finney plays the older father wonderfully, as always, and Ewan McGregor (looking disconcertingly like Kenneth Branagh with lips, in this movie) plays him as a young man...both are excellent. Jessica Lange is his (older) wife, and there are a few other surprises in the cast.

Mostly, it's a feel-good movie...watching the father's lies get bigger and bigger, seeing the son's reluctance to come to terms with the person his father is, and then finding out what is behind all the stories make for a very enjoyable time.

See it when you want a happy movie, it's a winner.
