Supposedly from the novel of the same name by Rafael Sabatini.
Tyrone Power seeps and whines until he gets Maureen O'Hara to stop running away from him. So it finally came: The New Year's Day Videofest. This year's theme: PIRATES. We were really looking forward to it. Mr. Hair, Craiggers, Mr. Otter and I were rarin' to go at 10 am, when we always start. We had eight movies on our list, which were to be chosen randomly. And we started with this dog. I guess that's better than last year, where the last movie was the worst... Tyrone Power is a privateer in the 1600s (kinda early) and ends up falling for (duh) the Governor's daughter, who (duh) doesn't like him and they spat and bicker back and forth through the whole movie until they suddenly fall in love. I like Tyrone Power, but in this he was just awful. Seepy, whiny, sulky, you name it, he was certainly giving Whinyboy Extraordinaire James Dean a run for his money. We were msting it like crazy after about 15 minutes. However, this movie does have Otter Family Favorite Actor Thomas Mitchell in it, so that was a help. Maureen O'Hara was beautiful, but mostly rolled her eyes and glared at Power, until she fell into his arms. Oh, and Anthony Quinn chewed scenery quite happily, he was fun to watch too. I seriously don't remember this book being anywhere near this bad, I'll have to reread it when I get my novels out of Durance Vile in the garage...but truly, folks, Sabatini is a good writer, you can't go wrong with him. Unlike this movie...
