What's Otter's
rating system?
Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm are charlatans making a living getting rid of ghosts and spirits that haunt small villages, with the help of 'state of the art' special effects...until they (of course) come up against a real spirit that is stealing young girls.

This is what this movie was like: about halfway through this movie (which has no opening credits, other than the title), during the 'torture information out of them' scene, I was thinking, you know, this is so uneven, whoever made it hasn't got a clue what they're really trying to do here...and then it hit me: they were trying to make a Terry Gilliam movie, but really didn't have any idea how to do that...and THEN it hit me...and I leaned over to Mr. Otter, and said, "IS this a Terry Gilliam movie?"

Yes, he said.

And there you have it, folks. When your movies look like bad imitations of YOUR OWN MOVIES...you've got trouble.

Okay, the special effects were good, and the plot picked up a little once they got to the village and there was a clear sequence of events...but this was way rambling and disjointed, and Gilliam had no idea if he was making a comedy, a horror story, a love story...and it shows.

This from the guy who made Twelve Monkeys...and Time Bandits...and The Fisher King...sigh. This was so bad it invited comparison with Jabberwocky, nuf sed.

Sure, if you're a fan, you'll probably want to see it...but for goodness sakes, rent it or borrow it from your library, you so don't want to see it more than once...
