What's Otter's
rating system?
The Queen of Egypt's torrid affairs with Caesar and Antony and her famous demise.

This is the version made in 1934, starring Claudette Colbert as Cleo, Warren William as Caesar, and Henry Wilcoxon as Antony.

I was seriously holding out for the Burton/Taylor epic...but (as is The Ten Commandments) it's FOUR HOURS LONG. This is a big chunk of the New Year's Day Videofest (this year's theme: B.C.) and not to be planned lightly. Plus Mr. Otter said he'd leave the room if it got picked. Well, ALL RIGHT THEN.

So we agreed on this one, which was readily available from Netflix...and were very happy in our choice!

There are lush settings and costumes, very 30s but very decadent. Claudette Colbert is cute as a kitten, but pulls off the tough and regal queen thing very nicely. The two leading men, Williams and Wilcoxon, are good in their roles, and the script is not bad.

A nice choice, especially for eye candy.
