Believe it or not, from the novel Emma by Jane
Austen. No
joke.
Cher is trying to solve everyone else's problems in her high school...whether they want her to or not. What a WONDERFUL movie! The characters and situations of Emma have been moved wholesale to Pismo Beach and a high school of rich kids who live for shopping. This is the best thing I have seen Alicia Silverstone do, she is just great...funny, charming and cute as a button. All of the actors are perfect for their roles, and the fun part is (of course) figuring out who is which character from the book. Although the writer, Amy Heckerling, takes some liberties with relationships and character, it works perfectly, and is so true to the book that it's incredibly funny and charming. Yes, you could probably enjoy it if you hadn't read Emma, but it's, like, totally better if you do your homework first, y'know? I mean, TOTALLY. Bonus points: I grew up in a family that loved Nash Ramblers and Metropolitans...they were the only cars we had, and until I was 26 I never drove anything else. It was such a joy to see Christian pick Cher up for the party in a cherried out convertible Metro, worth the whole movie just for that... |
