A man visits a place he's never been, runs into total strangers whom he already knows, and they all tell ghost stories. But is there more going on that that?

This is an Ealing film from 1945, and even though the theme of the AGVAPSNBA* that night was "horror movies from the 1950s", it's the Squirrel Lady's favorite, so we watched it...and it's pretty darn good, actually.

The guy shows up, comes into the living room, knows the name of all the (7 or 8) people there, and in between him telling what's going to happen, each of them tells a ghost or supernatural story. Some of them, like the race car driver and the one about the mirror, are creepy; the ventriloquist story is seriously oogie, because ventriloquists' dummies are oogie by definition. The golf story is just silly, and so are a couple of the others, and I'm still not quite clear why his evening in the house ends with him doing what he does...but the final ending of the movie, although predictable, is also satisfying.

Good actors, good production values, and a nice variety of stories make this one a fine choice for an evening's watching.
