Four librarians in the research department
of a big corporation are in
imminent danger of being replaced by a
computer.
OK, this is nothing short of charming. Katherine Hepburn (head of reference) and Joan Blondell are librarians, Spencer Tracy is the forgetful and absentminded but brilliant engineer sent to create a computer that will do research, and the resulting dynamics are a total treat, even if you're not a librarian. If you ARE a librarian, and haven't seen this movie, what are you waiting for? And of course, there's the fun of seeing 1957's vision of what a big computer looks like and how it works, a lot of fun as well. Charming and witty, visually amusing, full of great plot twists and wonderful give-and-take between Hepburn and Tracy, this one is a real winner. |
