What's Otter's
rating system?
Johnny Depp plays a young man who thinks he's Don Juan...and maybe he is...

OK, it's overused, but 'charming' is the word that comes to mind whenever I watch this one. Funny, upbeat, romantic, a little silly, the kind of movie that just makes you feel good. It's fun watching Depp play the character as you are sent back and forth between 'he really is Don Juan', 'he really isn't but he believes he is', and 'he's yanking our chains with this Don Juan crap'.

This is one of the few movies that I like Marlon Brando in (the other being Guys and Dolls, whatever Mr. Otter says to the contrary about his shortcomings as Sky Masterson.) He's a psychologist on the brink of retirement, and very good in the part, even kinda charming. Faye Dunaway I really can't stand, but she was no worse in this than anything else.

But really. Serious honey JOHNNY DEPP is in this, wonderful as always, so immersed in his role and his private world that you are simply drawn in there too, and believe it utterly. And this is a really good movie, not like some of those other dogs he's made (From Hell and The Ninth Gate LEAP to mind, and I so wish they wouldn't...)

Buy this one, it's cheap and you'll want to watch it over and over and over, it's a real feel-good movie.
