Fred and Judy in another singing/dancing/costume story. All ends well.
This is another one of those movies where they took a bunch of songs and tacked them together loosely with a cute story. And not only Fred Astaire and Judy Garland, but Total Honey Ann Miller and not so bad looking Young Peter Lawford are in this one, plus a nice cameo by Jules Munshin as the disgruntled waiter. Mostly excellent songs and dance routines, a better than usual plot, this has been one of my favorites since I was a young otter...Fred and Judy are good together, and most of the songs are eminently singable. And it sure beats watching The Ten Commandments again on Easter night...I never could figure out, when I was a kid, why that always got shown on Easter...it has nothing to do with Easter! But hey, I was young, there wasn't much to do in my hometown, so every year I'd watch it again... Do yourself a favor, give Chuck a pass just once and enjoy a lovely musical instead. |
