James Cagney is a lawyer-turned-G-man, and bringing the crooks in is his job.
This was actually a pretty good movie, although I could have done without the fakey 'FBI training' intro to the actual 1934 movie that was tacked on for its re-release in 1949. But that is a minor quibble. This is a wonderful gangster movie, with Cagney playing (for once) one of the good guys, a lawyer who can't get any business who joins the Feds when a friend of his is murdered by a gangster. There are some romantic complications, especially when Cagney's ex turns up again, married to one of the bad guys, and the action scenes are well done and believeable. Overll, a good example of its genre, and an enjoyable movie. |
