This was the third in our New Year's Day Videofest (theme: Humphrey Bogart) and it was chosen by the Squirrel Lady, and a good choice it was.

Bogie is the writer who is suspected of murdering a girl who visits him briefly at his home the night she is killed. He starts dating Gloria Grahame, and the suspense builds...

Good story, good characters and camerawork. I find Grahame to be a little too deadpan usually, but she wasn't bad in this, and Bogie is at his best here, alternately charming and flirtatious and scary as hell. The plot twists are good (I was guessing wrong through the whole thing) and the story trundles along very believeably. I would have liked a creepier and less 'nice' ending, but it was still darn good.
