What's Otter's
rating system?
The Librarian must travel around the world looking for the pieces of the Spear of Destiny and figure out some way to keep The Bad Guys from getting their hands on it...

When my homie La Cuerva (also a librarian) told me about this, I was skeptical...but I took her advice, put it on my Netflix list, and Mr. Otter and I settled down to watch it on Christmas Day (for some reason, he didn't think the sixth season of South Park was appropriate for Christmas, imagine that...!)

And we were not disappointed.

Firstly, let me say right here and now that the aforementioned protagonist is in actuality NOT a Librarian in the position he is hired for, but rather an archivist. Okay? Everyone clear about that? Can I get off my bandwagon now? thanks, that feels better.

The whole concept of this movie, that there is a secret library of famous lost stuff that someone is in charge of and responsible for, is pretty good, especially Flynn's (the librarian of the title) reaction to the stuff that is now 'his'. He's cute, he's funny, a little geeky and nebbishy but when the chips are down, he does what he has to.

Bob Newhart plays his mentor, and I have to say that THE BEST PART of the whole movie was watching him totally kick bad guy ass during the last scenes. Oh my god, that was great.

This is fluff, but fun fluff. Nobody, not the writer or the director or the actors, takes it so seriously that it gets boring, there are lots of puns and jokes, the action moves well, and you don't have to be a librarian to enjoy it...but it helps. There's also a sequel in the works, and talk on IMDB about it maybe becoming a TV series (this is a made for TV movie) so we'll see.

Anyway. A surprise find, very cute, fun to watch, pull up a chair and enjoy.
