A biopic of Ruth Etting, the singing star of the 30s and 40s, and her marriage to a mobster.
Well, on the one hand, it's got Doris Day and Jimmy Cagney, who are (individually and together) a
joy to watch. On the other hand, it's a pretty standard biopic: girl wants to become famous,
gangster makes her famous, gangster runs her life, she turns to alcohol, finally works it all out.
On the OTHER hand, hey, it's Serious Honey Doris Day, who could ask for more? The songs (all Ruth
Etting hits) are good, and Cagney and Day are very enjoyable in this. Worth spending an evening with.
