Two people are brought together by the execution of a criminal: his wife and one of his jailers.

Well, I wanted to like this one, but jeez, talk about candidates for the Jerry Springer show, trashy lowlifes. Not much sympathy there, no siree bob. Yes, Halle Berry is cute and an EXCELLENT actress, but no sparks...and although Billy Bob Thornton was perfect for the role, ditto. The best role in the whole movie was Peter Boyle as Billy Bob's bigoted father, really stole the show.

Maybe the best way to describe this movie is the conversation chez Otter when Berry's son gets hit by a car and is in the hospital:

Me: He's gonna die.
Mr. Otter: No he isn't.
Me: Yes, he is.
Mr. Otter: He's a kid. They won't kill a kid.
Me: Yes, they will, it's that kind of a movie.
(doctor pulls sheet over kids face)
Mr. Otter: You were right.

I dunno. Maybe I was just in the wrong mood to see this one, it got a lot of good reviews...but I didn't see no points about it a-TALL. I kept being vaguely of Lone Star, oddly enough, except that Lone Star was a HECK of a lot better.

Rent it yourself and tell me if I'm wrong.
