A drug deal goes bad, and hired killers are after the Guy Who Took The Money.
You have to hand it to the Coen brothers, their movies are always worth watching, whether or not they're brilliant. Even a dog like The Big Lebowski had moments. This was much higher up on the scale...sure, it's no O Brother Where Art Thou...but then again, what is? But what it is, is a taut, superbly acted thriller. Josh Brolin (who is excellent in this, as he was in Milk (he's one to watch)) finds a big ol' pile of money after happening into a drug deal where everyone shot each other. He, of course, brings it home and the mob, of course, wants it back. They send a really scary killer (Javier Bardem) after it, and this is the story of the whole chase. And it's edge-of-your-seat time, folks. With the added bonus of Tommy Lee Jones, Serious Honey, as the sheriff who's also after the killer. This doesn't have a happy ending, but it's very very good. Rent it before buying, though...it may not be one you want to see more than once because it is so intense. |
