This is the long review, and contains SPOILERS. If

this movie yet, read the short review.
A woman and her daughter take refuge in a security vault when robbers break into their house. This one was very, very good, edge-of-the-seat time; I think Mr. Otter has bruises on his hand where I kept clutching it. Good suspense, a little character building, enough to make Jodie Foster and her family more interesting than run-of-the-mill victims, and the same for the burglars. I'm not sure yet if Jodie Foster is a serious honey, or just a good actress, but whichever way the coin lands, it's worth most of the ticket price to see her alone. Reality police: OK, so when Foster thinks of breaking the cameras (duh!) the bad guys all hit their heads with the heels of their hands and say, geez, we should have thought of that. I found it VERY HARD to believe that they wouldn't... And there was NO FOOD in this room? There's water, medical supplies, and even an electric fire starter, but NO FOOD? Again, hard to believe... and finally, the one that really got me: the room itself is sheathed in three inches of solid steel, but the air conditioning lines are left where they're easy to get to? I don't think so. But you know, for your average explodo, those are very small quibbles indeed...this one was great, worth every penny of the nine bucks, esp. when the tables are turned and it's the bad guys locked up in the room. An excellent roller-coaster of a movie. |
