From the novel of the same name by John Godey.

A subway train in New York is hijacked, much action and excitement!

Oh, man, this was so good! We were having the New Year's Day Videofest (this year's theme: Underground) and this was the first movie. And what a great start!

Firstly, we were pleased at the cast: Robert Shaw and Walter Matthau, head to head, mano a mano. And Martin Balsam again, this time using his own voice.

And the plot was good, funny, exciting. Very 70s. Lots of curmudgeonliness, since Matthau is in it AND it takes place in New York. Good writing, exciting situation, it was great.

Until the dvd froze. We spent 20 minutes or so trying it over and over, and finally figured out that about 3 chapters were not going to read...so we had to skip them. And we figured out what we had missed, but it was still annoying.

But the movie? excellent. Highly recommended. Loads of exciting fun.
