An offshore radio station plays rock & roll in early 60s Britain, where it's not allowed on the regular airwaves.
The Movie Buddies had watched The King's Speech and talked about getting together again; they suggested this, and we were very willing. And oh my god, how funny. The cast was great- Bill Nighy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Kenneth Branagh as the evil cabinet minister trying to shut the broadcast down. The "pirates" are wild and crazy rock and rollers all stuck on a boat together playing great music...how could hijinks not ensue? We really liked this, and (I should know this by now) at the end we saw the writer's name. Yup, you guessed it, my golden love object, Richard Curtis. Any of you who have heard my Love, Actually story will know that at that point I was just kicking myself for not having seen it in the theater. But at least I got to see it, and am so grateful to the Movie Buddies for suggesting it.
