From the novel The Year of the Angry Rabbit by Russell Braddon. I kid you not.

GIANT CARNIVOROUS BUNNIES! What more do you need to know?

It was the New Year's Videofest, theme: Animal Attack movies, and this was our fourth film. After The Beginning of the End, pretty much ANYTHING looked good, believe me.

And actually, this was not so bad...mostly because it was so idiotic it was funny. The cast: Janet Leigh (yes, the Psycho movie Janet Leigh, how the mighty have fallen.) DeForest Kelly, two years after the end of the first Star Trek series. Stuart Whitman, who always makes me think of the old TV series Love, American Style because I watched so much of it with my dad and Whitman was on every other episode, the poor guy. Oh, and I almost forgot RORY CALHOUN, veteran of a billion and a half Westerns in the good old days (okay, not a billion, but the guy was in 145 movies in his lifetime, that's pretty impressive.)

So the cast was fun. But OMG, how incredibly stupid the movie was!

Stuart Whitman and Janet Leigh's daughter manages to let a bunny loose that had been treated with an experimental hormone compound that was supposed to keep the bunnies from breeding (they were taking over Rory Calhoun's ranchland). By THE NEXT DAY, all the bunnies in the area were gigantic (150 lbs or so) and carnivorous. Um, okay.

But of course, they had to use real bunnies for their rampaging hordes. And no matter how much red paint you splash over a bunny's mouth, it still doesn't look anything but cute. Its teeth are not scary, they're rodent teeth. And even if everyone is SAYING that they're mad flesh-eating killers, it's just not believeable. Especially when the camera roves over a room full of bodies...all of which have been liberally splashed with red paint and have NO VISIBLE WOUNDS and in fact look perfectly healthy.

The scenes of the SCARY RAMPAGING BUNNIES are great too, a herd of rabbits of all kinds going lippety-lippety down the road. So incredibly cute.

This is just silly, watch it for fun.
