From the play by William Shakespeare.
Shrewish older sister is married
by a fortune hunter who is determined to
tame her, and in the process
they
fall in love.
Burton. Taylor. A cast of well-known actors (and not so well-known, at the time...it was Michael York's first movie!). A Zefferelli production. All that said, it's really not as bad as you would think; it's quite likeable. I loved this movie as a young otter, and am glad to see that it holds up pretty well, even though as an older and wiser otter, I can tell that Liz Taylor couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, and Dick Burton was already a complete drunk...if he's sober in one scene of that movie, it must have been one that I missed! But there are others in the cast worth watching too, nearly everyone else for that matter; the script is true to the spirit of the play, the sets/locations/costumes are lavish and beautiful, and it is quite a lot of fun. Go on, you know you want to, pull the curtains and enjoy it in private. |
