Ex-Southern girl living in New York,
becoming a famous designer,
engaged to the mayor's son, goes home and
discovers what she's left
behind.
I really went to see this wanting to dislike it and trash it in my review...and you know, it was kind of charming. Reese Witherspoon is a serious honey, and Josh Lucas was cuter than a box of puppies...and the story, although silly, wasn't too bad. At least they kept making the point that small town folks aren't (for the most part) stupid or backward, that living that way instead of (for instance) the New York City kind of life is a choice, and there are reasons people might choose one or the other and be happy about it. Witherspoon's accent kept disappearing and reappearing, not good, but otherwise she was a treat to watch, as usual. And Josh Logan, man oh man, when they were handing out adorable he got a double dose. Candice Bergen was fun to dislike as the stone bitchy Mayor of New York as well. Rent it when it comes out if you want a movie you don't have to think about on a night when you have nothing better to do. |
