From the novel of the same name by Robert Louis Stevenson
Well, it was the New Year's Day Videofest. Our theme: Underground. Several of us collaborated on a big list o' movies, then four of us each picked two. I added this to the long list because of the buried treasure thing, I felt like a pirate movie...but I didn't want the Disney version, I've kind of seen enough Disney versions of good books. So I asked the Squirrel Lady (who chose this title) to pick up a non-Disney Treasure Island. And I talked to her on New Year's Eve...and she had been sick as a dog all week. No problem, I said, I'll go find it. So Mr. Hair and I went to our local Emporium De Video...and of course the Disney version was the only one to be had, aside from Muppet Treasure Island, which I know the Squirrel Lady would NEVER forgive me for. And well, for Disney it wasn't bad. The kid was cute, Long John Silver (Robert Newton) was great, the writing wasn't too turgid and slow, Ben Gunn was good comic relief, it was okay. Not great, but okay. Sure don't need to see it ever ever ever again, though... |
